History of Upper Georgia Avenue

Officially named in 1908, The Upper Georgia Avenue Main Street has evolved from a historic transportation route into a vibrant neighborhood commercial corridor. Over time, it has developed alongside hundreds of small businesses and surrounding residential communities, serving as a key spine linking neighborhoods such as Brightwood, Shepherd Park, and the now the Parks at Walter Reed.

Our Businesses

The Georgia Avenue and 7th Street, NW corridor is 5.6 miles in length. It extends from Mount Vernon Square to Eastern Avenue, NW. The corridor is one of the District’s longest and is bound by many neighborhoods and institutions. The Washington, DC, Convention Center anchors the southern end of this corridor; Howard University, its lower middle; and Walter Reed, its northern end.

As a resource to the community, we have assembled an inventory of all 300+ businesses currently in operation along the corridor. If you are the owner of a business on the corridor that is not currently listed, if you would like to update your listing, or if you would like any additional business support, please contact us here.
